Default Rodbolt: cooling water temp sensor 2000 yr carb 175 yamaha v-6

Rodbolt could really use some help here have a manual but it does not explain the function just tells how to test it. What symtoms will you see if this sensor is bad, what does the cdi unit do with the resistance change from the sensor as the temps change. Thanks Mike

were u getting warning lights, rpm slower?

cdi turns it to limit mode

does it say test in volts also
i believe yami uses ohms mainly
I'm really not a fan of ohms due to the fact weather has a role into different readings, also a cheap DMM with give u false readings

The sensor is basically a switch which goes to ground to activate the protection circuit when the temprature reaches a high enough level.

as far as the temp switches , on the carbed model its an on/off switch.
when its on the horn activates, the visual activates and the ECU goes into RPM reduction.
if its off everyone is happy.
now the thermosensor is a bit different. its a thermistor device. as the temp increases its resitance decreases to allow the prime start to function better for warm up.
the ECU on that motor can alter ign timing at start up based on the thermosensor signal.
symtoms of a failed temp sensor will be hard starting and no fast idle at cold start to no RPM reduction from cold start unless the throttle is opened and clsoed again.
depends on where it failed high or low.
