I have a 9,9 hp mariner, single carb ,the out board starts sounds like it is running on one cylinder, runs for a bit say a minute and then dies ,stine dead as if you cut the fuel supply off,it take a lot to start it again, definatley running on one cylinder.
I removed to carb to find that inside the motor there are 3 thin metal plates on either side, looking into the throat, the right hand side plateÂ’s have a fine layer of rust just where they open and close, tried to clean it a bit but has made no difference to the engine, any ideaÂ’s what these plates do? My outboard is about 7 years old and has been in storage for 3 years ,I have cleaned the carb and the plugs both have spark.
The outboard has a total of about 15 hours of duty in itÂ’s life.
Those thin metal plates are reed valves. The must seal properly for the motor to run properly. Should not be any rust on them. Here is a good starting point for you. http://forums.iboats.com/bbBoard.cgi...6;gtid=1035575
