I'm reading the mercruiser manual ,and almost every step in working on the outdrive takes a special wrench. I can't afford to take my rig to a mechanic so I guess my question is...how many of these wrenches do I really need? I made a hinge pin wrench outr of a 1/2 ' allen wrench and I got the castle nut off drive shaft housing by tapping it off...but won't be able to torque it back on. Anyone know where to buy used tools or rent them online?

Re: Outdrive

picker, did you mark the nut and housing as to the original location of the torqued position? that nut takes a large amount of torque. i seem to remember that a rule of thumb is to return it to the original position and add 1/4 inch of offset in the marks.
