I am rebuilding and restoring two 1959 35HP 'Rudes. I have the factory service manual from that era, it states .003 to .0045 piston clearence. I have +.020 pistons and have bored and honed the block.
It dawned on me that the manual does not state .003-.0045 clearence TOTAL or per side ? I am a avid drag racer and a journeyman machinist, I would expect this clearance to be stated as a TOTAL value. (=.0015-.0022 per side) Im looking for confirmation from someone that has built any Evinrudes that .003-.0045 is a TOTAL value. THX for your Time, & PLEASE HELP??????
Don't know if your manual is the same as mine, and don't know if this will help, but here's what mine has.
EDIT: Actually, this is from a Johnson manual, but same difference in 1959. 35 horse was RD-21.
