I just finished winterizing my outboard motor, which is a 1995 Evinrude 70hp. I was running it with the water muffs on and noticed water coming out above the muffs ,just above where the square plate is with the 4 bolts, in this open area ,don't know how else to explain it but near where the motor is mounted. I noticed this one other time when using it on water, I was driving normally and looked back to see water boiling out from the mount/hinge area which I thought was unusual? I still had water coming from the indicator tube. I could take a picture of the area I am trying to describe if thiat will help? Thanks
What you are looking at is normal. That engine has what is called a wet sleeve. This help's silence exhaust noise. It is a coloum of water in the exhaust housing around the inner exhaust megaphone.
Yeah, the "mount/hinge area" got me to thinking too. Unless you are referring to the relief holes on the back of the leg. A pic of where the water is coming out would be good....
There are two approximately 1/4" cavity leakoff holes(one on each side) just above and forward of the mount damper plate with the four bolts.A carefully hand held mirror and a flashlight will reveal a visual.Reach around the midsection and hold the mirror on the opposite side from you and the flashlight at just about the center of the circle in your pic and you'll see one of them.To see the other one, change sides with the mirror and flashlight. They're there.
