Hey Everyone,

I had my 93 yamaha outboard out on the lake for the first time last weekend, It has not ran for about a year, however it started up fine, but had no top end speed, After about 20 mins of going 5 mph with the throttle wide open, we tried playing with the choke, and found that if we pulled & held the choke in just the right spot the engine would peak.... any idea's on what to check??

Thanks in advance!

Re: 93 yamaha 40hp outboard problems

After sitting for a year, the carburetors have become gummed up with varnish from old fuel that apparently wasn't treated for storage. Remove them, totally disassemble them, soak them in carb cleaner, make sure every passage is squeaky clean, and then reassemble using new kits. Use fresh fuel, always use a fuel stabilizer or preferably SeaFoam to keep the fuel system clean. Properly prepare the engine for storage and you won't have this problem.
