My warranty expires April of 07. My engine has had a lower unit replaced one year ago then the power head replaced last spring Then the other day while heading out fishing , the second lower unit blew. I heard a loud noise and it felt like it was in neutral I shut it off and lifted the motor to inspect and found a hole in the side of the bullet with oil leaking into the water. I was towed 20 miles back to my slip.Thank god for my tow insurance. My mechanic said he would call Bombadier but he is no longer a Evinrude dealer and doesnt know whether they would let him do the work. I hope they will because he did the head and that seems fine. Someone else did the first lower unit. When the lower unit is replaced I think I will trade it for a different Brand motor.I have had nothing but problems with this motor.

try to get ur dealer to work a deal with brp
a buddy of mine worked them for a new e-tech for $4,000
the 1999 and 2000 were the problems
they had coil pack problems, power head problems
i never heard of lower units, so that is a first

The Ficht were known to have weak lower units, I'm not sure what years it was in, but I have heard a lot of bad stories about those lower units.

I agree with Justin, have your mechanic tell them all of the trouble you have had and the work that has been done and see if you can get a deal on an E-tec.
