Default one more aluminum painting question

I have an aluminum boat paint has a ton of chips in it and a painter I know said he could give it a lite sanding and paint it for around $500 or less if I don't care to much about the color he could use some left over care paint.
The question is would car paint be ok to use?
What about the chips down to the aluminum should they be hit with primer first. Or should i just spend the $$$ on marine paint. If so what kind would be good without having to sand off the old paint. the boat is used in salt on weekend but is trailered the rest of the time.

how big of an aluminum boat? if its an old boat i would use car paint on it to save $$...just make sure he gives it a good sanding and it doesnt chip...then a good priming with zinc chromate primer.
