evinrude lower unit

I just purchased a 1986 50 hp evinrude.I'm changing the lower unit oil.I have no manual.My question is.Is this an electric shift.If it is I'm guesing I need omc oil.Is this correct.Thanks.rainmaker

Hi Rainmaker

It is mechanical shift. You need hi-viscosity lower unit lube. You can get it at Walmart or your dealer...Also, you fill from the bottom hole until it comes out of the top hole. (Remove the bottom fill plug and the vent plug, let the gear oil drain. To refill, with the motor in the vertical position, put the gear oil in the bottom until it overflows from the vent plug. Screw in the vent plug and then the fill plug).
