Timing a 77 Merc 1150 115hp outboard

Can someone tell me how to do this? The guy before me messed with it and now the dealers wont touch it.

I am a complete newbie to engines, let alone outboards and followed Clams' procedure - it was straight forward and simple, plus you can learn alot about how an outboard works.

The original thread that the FAQ came from can be found here . It also has other peoples questions and may clear up any that you come up with.
