Too Much Fuel

i have a 1986 35hp Merc. I have just rebuilt the carb and replaced float and needle set. New fuel lines and fuel pump kit. But the engine is still flooding out and the carb is set at factory setting. When i say a lot of fuel, I mean the cylinders are drowning out in the fuel. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Re: Too Much Fuel

Float level set incorrectly or the inlet needle and seat are installed incorrectly or are binding. Remove the carb, tip it upside down and then blow into the fuel inlet. If air passes, the float is not closing the inlet needle. If air does not pass, the needle and set are closing, but the float level may still be set too high. Lastly, the float may be sinking (fuel soaked) so it can't possibly shut off fuel flow.

Check the float bowl vent, if it's plugged it'll cause all kinds of weird problems.
