I was there this weekend. Rumors and half truth running rampant as usual. Very sad, you could feel the energy level change on the lake after that

Lots of gossip:
Happened at night?
At very high speed?
Alcohol involved?
One boat without running lights?

Don't know what to believe.

Well, I do believe that 5 people were killed and a sixth is in bad shape. I also believe that several agencies are investigating to find out what really did happen. I wonder if they will agree in the end.

Daytime, both boats were participating in an event called a "poker run" - along with 100 or so other boats - kind of like a road rally - but each stop you get a card - I don't know all the rules. The organizers have rules requiring PFDs be worn and prohibiting alcohol - but I don't know how strictly they are enforced. Both boats were smashed to pieces.

The boat described above was built, owned & operated by a professional drag racer (auto). For a phenominal fee you could hire him and the boat for events including poker runs. Other words this guy was experienced professional. Nothing has been said about the other boat.

From what I read he was also the organizer. They said it wasn't a race and that what has them confused.

I believe it launches just like any other rocket, from a launch pad. Retrieval, I'm guessing, is done with three parachutes...
