Hey all, I am reproping my boat and I know I need to know the ideal WOT before I start so I know where I should be !! My boat is an 18 ft. Aluminum Deep V Sea Nymph with all the bells and whistles so it is heavy. I didcussed this abit in the incorrect forum so I am presenting it to you guys.

The boat now has a 11 3/4 X 17 on it now
I have a 12.5 X 13 sitting in my boat as a spare

I was told that the 12.5 X 13 will give me a better hole shot ! ( BY Steelespike) I am not setting any land speed records with this boat nor do I need to..... in the same respect I do not need to pull a bardge with it either, so in you opinions which do I use or do I need something else?

Again what should WOT be? Thanks in advance ! Stuart

Believe that's your 1989 40 HP you're talkin' about. If so, look for 5500-5700 RPM's at WOT...An 18'er with a 17" pitch seems steep. I'd try the 13 and see what RPM's you get....

It is my 1989....sorry and wow I am lucky to get 4000 with the 17 now, does this sound like I have an engine problem or do you think it is the 17 pitch prop? Hummm I may have been running off kilter for a while??? What do you think?

A 17 pitch prop is too high for that combination. You are lugging the engine seriously which is really a bad situation. I had a 40 Evinrude on a similar size boat and the engine really labored. It was happier with a 15. I tried a 13P stainless and it simply reved too high (6000). The proper prop would be 11-3/4 x 15 in my view. These are available all over as they are a fairly standard size. In fact if you are interested, I have a 11/3/4 x 15 aluminum in excellent shape. Email me at DBLSI@charter.net if interested.
