noisy exhaust flappers

I have a 1986 searay 21 ft. with an omc cobra outdrive 5.7 litre, my problem is the exhaust flappers are so noisy that it sounds like the gimbal bearings are bad. the boat repair shop installed new flappers ,rods,bushings and the noise persists. i was very disappointed after paying the bill and the shop just said some are noisy and some are not and yours are.have any of you had this problem and what is the fix besides removing the flappers

I Just replaced my flappers for the same reason........noise. I am not familiar with the OMC drives but I don't know if I would feel comfortable with the answer you were given.

My flappers were definetly worn ( one more than the other) and were making noise at idle and low RPM's. After I replaced them the noise went completely away.

I wouldnt recommend it but many here will tell you that the flappers are not necessary.Hopefully you dont have an old flapper that dropped off popping around in your exhaust.
