Last night I was at the boat store and overheard one of the salesmen talking with a customer. He told the guy that you should throw the engine into gear instead of easing it into gear. Comments?

Yep, easing it into gear wears the top edges of the clutch dogs and mating dogs on the gears. They get rounded off enough and they start skipping over each other.

Re: Transmission question

yup...ease it into gear...you hear grinding. Grinding is bad for the gearcase. Firmly and decisively is how you shift an outboard.
