Default Hard bottom retrofit

I have a 13' Redshank and am trying to put in a portable hardbottom. I have plywood pieces and avon interconnect rails. Should the boards be trimmed more narrow than the width of the bottom? I cut pieces, and waterproofed them, but everthing seems too tight along the edges. I'm afraid that too narrow would put too much stress on the soft bottom.
Any hints, advice or tricks?

Avon's original floorboards were quite tight. I wouldn't worry too much as long as you're not having to stretch stuff to get them in.
