Batteries are charged all the way. Turn the key in neutral and nothing, no electric choke, no cranking. Jump the starter and she runs fine . Power tilt not working now either. I accidently jumped the positive to the negative while trying to jump her when the batteries were depleted ( before charging them overnight) . Did I fry my solonoid? Is there a way to test it? Are there any fuses I may have blown? Appreciate your replies, Thanks.
Working to late to take a look. Seemed like a dumb question but when I looked at the parts diagram it called the solonoid a relay., and showed another solonoid by the trim unit. LOL. Thanks,appreciate your reply. I saw no inline fuse . Is it under the plastic covering the elctronics?
If you reversed polarity on the battery you might want to check the charging system. Doing what you did often fries the rectifier/regulator. In fact it may be the reason the battery went flat in the first place.
Is there an easy way to check the rectifier.? Next time I go out I intend to bring another battery to start the engine when I.m done fishing. I may well have a charging problem. I have two new batteries but was thinking my new Rule aerator pump used up a whole lot more juice and that is what drained my batteries last time. Thanks for your input,w2much
If your boat has a voltmeter on the dash it should read about 12.6V at idle and jump up to 14.5 volts give or take a little at anything above 2000 RPM. If it stays at 12.6V or less regardless of RPM, the battery is not being charged. If you don't have a voltmeter, you can buy one at Sears, Radio Shack or any Home Improvement Store for $10 or so. Measure the voltage at the battery with the engine off. It should read around 12.6V. Start the engine and rev it to 2000 RPM. If the voltage does not rise to 14 - 14.5 volts the charging system is not working. Your aerator pump should only draw a couple of amps and would run the battery for days.
Got home from work with light in the sky, nice. Engine started right up. 12.6 volts or so at idle, reached 14 plus a little at about 2800 to 3000 rpm. At 2000 rpm it was at 12.6. Is this a fair charge rate? Thanks,w2much
