I replaced the head gasket on my 85, 70 hp johnson outboard because of water trace on spark #1 plug and slight tapping noise. While I had the head off I noticed the piston was loose in the cylinder. Now, no water but LOUD tapping and power loss (not firing all the time) Anyway, need some advise. Is it worth replacing the piston? can I do just 1? Need some help with finding a manual if this is what I need to do. Thanks a bunch,

If the piston was loose and you have a loud tapping then you may have a baad connecting rod bearing. You need to completely disassemble the powerhead to replace a piston and/or replace the bearing. And if the bearing is bad due to water damage, then the crank journal (where the bearing sits) is probably damaged also.
