Re: Help with Evinrude age

OMC made a Johnson 15HP IN 1967 with a model number WH-13. This is probably what you have. The cover from the Evinrude 15hp for that year would fit the Johnson.

If the numbers you found were on the transom bracket, you might want to confirm that they are also on the engine block [on the welch plug about the size of a quarter].

Nice one, interestingly the core plug has different markings as follows
203B03A
B 01596

Hope this helps, and thanks for your help so far...

Right, 203B03 is 1973 20HP. Sounds like they replaced the bracket.

The 1973 parts manuals are on line so you can check to see what matches and what does not.

Copy this link without the quotation marks: "http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=E"

Re: Help with Evinrude age

I think you could be right...but it seems that Evinrude only made 18hp or 25hp engines in 1973 so I guess I must have a Johnson.
Thanks for all your help, much appreciated.

Re: Help with Evinrude age

No, OMC made 20HP models in both lines in 1973. Here is a link to the actual OMC archive - Copy it to your browser without the quotation marks:

Also: "http://skoterskroten.com/batmotorer/Listor/arsmodellstabell.pdf"

Since the motors would be the same except for cosmetics, use the Johnson parts catalog if they don't show the Evinrude.

Interestingly, they don't show my 1976 115hp Johnson in the parts manuals either.
