Johnson 70; Year? Model?

How do I determine the year of this thing? The only ID I can find on the motor is stamped into the engine block head. It's - 339288

there should be a welch plug on top of the engine, behind the flywheel and in front of the head, it's about the size of a quarter and will have the #'s stamped in it

hmmm...just looked again. found another # (stamped into the block)- 334006

I'm thinking it's not the one you're talking about. If not, how do I identify the welch plug, I don't know what that is.

looks like a freeze plug or just a convexed shape plug in the top of the engine

no, look on the one just under the lift hook (dead center)

is there a ser/mod# on the left side transom mount? the # you are looking for will start with 70
