How to install a tattle tail on a 1977 85 Evinrude

My 1977 85hp Evinrude does not have a tattle tail and I was wondering if I could remove a bolt on the head and install one. My 1974 70hp Johnson works like that???

you can drill on the top side of the block above the #1 cylinder right behind where the head bolts up too. Get you a 1/8" (I think) pipe thread 90 degree elbow with 1/8" rubber line running out of your cowl.

You sacrificed a head bolt to install a telltale and the head hasn't warped and blown a gasket? Pardon me, I'm still recovering from the shock.

I believe I mis-spoke... I don't think it is a head bolt, it on the side of the block.

here's a step by step on the actual drilling, although it doesn't show the placement on a V-4...also refers to a t-fitting, but you could use an elbow, same part number as the one you have.

Matt, I am a newbie on here too and I think I can answer this for you...A tattle tail is the small tube on newer motors at the bottom of the cowling that water comes out of when the motor is running. this shows proper operation of the water pump impellor. Some people (around my neck of the woods) call it the weep hole, I have also heard it called the pisshole before.
