Hi,
Our Mercury 2.2 (s/n 8082161) is pretty temperamental. Most days it runs fine. Some days it acts as if its running lean .. slow to warm up and run without choke, fading when throttle opens etc. Other days it acts as if too rich .. floods easily on starting, even hot starts, then needs loads of pulls to clear it.
Mostly, even when it won't run right under load, it starts easily and idles OK.
I have cleaned the fuel system loads of times, checked float height, ignition timing, contact breakers etc. Nothing looks wrong. The only slightly suspicious thing is that it runs best with the needle down one notch, leaner than standard.
My guess just now is that maybe the float valve is not sealing consistently, giving a variable fuel height. So I'm going to replace the valve and seat.
Any other suggestions? Are there other parts that you would recommend replacing as a precaution?
Thanks,
Tony S
