two part question here.

my carpet on the boat floor has some old stains in it. i was wondering if using a tradtion "spot bot" or hot water carpet cleaner could potentially damage whats underneath the carpet ie the wood.

the next question is, i am using a product i bought at the marina for water stains, the only thing is that its like 10bucks a bottle. a friend of mine told me that i could use a vinegar and water mix to do the same thing, and save lots of money in the long run...
is there any truth to his statement???
is there another way to clean water spots off right at the lake thats bio friendly???/ cheap???

thanks

Re: carpet stains on boat floor./ water marks

i found a store that sells the water spot spray a little cheaper, but i am still wondering about the vinegar mix...

i started using my spot bot on a couple of the really bad stains. if anyone cares ill post and let you know how well it does, and whether or not it damages the glue or wood or the carpet...

so does anyone know about the vinegar thing, or any other substatutes???

thanks

Re: carpet stains on boat floor./ water marks

I use "Resolve" and a scrub brush to clean the occasional stain from my carpet. It works very quickly and does not affect the color, though you should test it on a hidden spot just to be sure if you use it.

My boat is white, so I don't know about the vinegar. However, water spots are typically minerals and vinegar is commonly used to clean mineral deposits from water in coffee makers, shower heads, etc.. The theory makes sense. What do you have to lose? Buy some white vinegar and try it.
