I'm trying to help a neighbor so bare with me....the boat was running rich blowing black smoke out the exhaust, so he took carb in for a rebuild and he said it started once, but can't get it started again. When you crank engine it doesn't sound like it's going to catch, but when you release the key it runs on like it's trying to start. I know the timing is not set correctly yet, but while he was trying to start it I was moving the dist. around to see if it would fire and no luck. It's getting spark, but to me it looked white not blue...it was hard to tell because of the bright sun though. Any suggestions?
