ignition problems 60 hp 1991 evinrude
just purchased a boat 17' tracker with a 1991 evinrude, boat motor and trailer looked to be in emaculate shape i knew the motor needed some type of electrical work cause it had no spark, and for the price i bought it for boat and trailer are worth double what i paid so i dont mind puting some time and money into the motor. the problem looks to be the arm on the timer base assembly is broken off, the fly wheel looks to be rubbing the stator just bove the timer base assembly arm that is broke, It only rubs in one location, per revolution just above where the timer base arm is broken, i also noticed some metal shavings/dust below the fly wheel probably due to the rubing of the fly wheel on the stator, i am not sure what may have caused this to happen or if there are some other more serious issues to look for, the manual i bought dosnt reely give alot of info on this problem so i figured id start here for some sugjestions,
compression on the motor is 100,115,125. the motor shifts into gear fine i chocked the prop and tryed to turn the fly wheel and there was no slip, the prop spins free with no resistance when in neutral so i have ruled out a sheer key but cant tell for sure till i take it off if mabe some one tryed to remove the fly wheel improperly by prying on it or something , i figured that may have caused the arm on the timer base to have broked but cant tell why the fly wheel would be rubing the stator unless mabey they got the thing off and didnt put it on right mabe its just miss aligned or something, like i said the manual is pretty vague on this . so i need some help.
