I have new/used 20 hp Evinrude, 1982. The last couple of nights I've been out, when I start off in forward the motor will pop out of gear and into neutral. Once in neutral the motors revs very fast. I need to slow the motor down and pull the side shift lever back (further) into forward. Last night i had to hold the shifter lever in forward and motor back at 1/4 throttle.
Has anyone run into this? Is it an adjustment? How do i do it?
I'm not a mechanic, and I'm on vacation. If I need to take the motor in for major work I'd like to know sooner rather than later.
