I just purchased a boat that has a Pre 1978 tilt & trim unit. I'm having difficulty removing the hydrolic motor/pump housing. The motor went bad so I purchased a replacement and cannot pull the existing motor/pump housing off the shock bracket. There are 3 3/8 sized screws that connect the housing to the bracket and I cannot remove the bottom one. The shock is in the way and it's too tight to even get a offset wrench in there. My question is, is there a specific tool I need to remove the screw? Is there a manual for this motor? I would appreciate any suggestions.

I have always removed the entire tilt/trim unit from the engine when replacing the tilt trim motor. I guess some people get the tilt motor off by jockeying things around but it's a whole lot easier to work on with the whole tilt trim unit sitting in a vise, especially if you break one of the bolts or decide to use a torch to prevent breaking one.
