I don't see this in any parts diagrams I have. This "plate" shown in the pic is held on by 3 bolts. The bolts are not loose but the plate is. Anyone know what this is? Is it supposed to be loose?

I believe that covers the idle exhaust passageway. Due to limitations in casting technology, a plate had to be put in there somewhere. On older engines it's at the top of the midsection. But that puts it directly in the blast of the exhaust. The plates would warp or rot right through.


If you check out the parts diagram at brp, they've got it misidentified as going on the top of the midsection, where the old plate used to go.

It doesn't matter that it's loose. If you like pull the bolts and put in washers or whatever you need to make it tight, but it will not make much difference.
