engine alignment issue

I have a omc 5.7 I installed in my boat. I used the tool for the alignment. I thought I was finished with that part until I turned the motor. The tool would not slide in. I turned the motor until the tool would go in and marked the pulley. I turned the motor 1/4 turn and the tool would not go, 180 degree and ok, the 270 degrees and no go, then back to the mark ok. What could it be, the coupler?

Yep, bad coupler. I usually see about 1 or 2 new couplers bad a year.
