i am in need desperate of help for my motor for my whaler. The problem im having is on my outboard johnson is that it starts and everything but once it starts it shuts off imedialtley like its not getting fuel. so when i opened the cover i looked to the left i saw a wire burnt. heres a description of what it looks like , theres a bar of 5 wires that are goin into a circle that looks like plastic that is surrounded by a huge triangle, what i wanna know is what that whole thing is called and if that burnt wire is the problem, ( the wire is the red one )

That sure sounds like the rectifier, you're describing. Anytime you have a burnt wire, it's a problem. It's usually because one of two reasons. Either the wire was too close to a heat source OR too much current passed thru it. Best guess is an over current condition. If the rectifier goes South, you'll loose the tach and the battery won't be charged.
