I have a 1983 50 evinrude. Seen everywhere about the blue and green wires. Some say the engine compartment and others say lower unit. Some say to remove the lower unit, and others say don't remove it b/c its a lot of problematic work. Looked all over the egine compartment and NO blue or green wires... Maybe like a baby blue/or gray color but deffinitely no dk blue or dk green. The main connection in the engine is a seven pin connector. Red. Black. Purple. Purple/white. Black/yellow. Yellow/red. Gray. i think i know what all these do. Some people say the oil in the lower is bad. i dunno. Where can i locate these wires? and am i better off taking it to a repair shop? HELP PLEASE!! Thanks!!

Re: Hydrostatic wire locator?

The motor is stuck in forward. Motor starts and runs WELL!, just no neutral or reverse. While engine is running, if you shift from forward to neutral or reverse and vice- versa nothing happens. Engine speeds up (still forward)if you throttle it in reverse. thanks for the quick response.
