OK, I have a 1975 22 ft cruisers inc. ( i know old, haha), well the other day i had it out and ran fine until late in the day. As I was getting close to being on plain, it just gave out, like the prop was spinning and the boat was going anywhere. Well I put the boat back in neutral and tried again, did the samething. The boat idles fine, takes off fine, but just as I am about to "plain" it out, the prop just spins and kind of makes a loud noise like it's just spinng. I have no clue, can you guys help me out?? Thanks alot fellas!!!

Be safe and catch some fish!!!!

Its a fairly cheap fix if thats the problem.
Pull the prop and check the rubber hub inside the center of the prop.
A shop can re-hub it or you could just replace the prop.
Never hurts to carry a spare prop anyway.

Welcome to Iboats!

Could be a really worn shift dog that only "gives" under a heavy load. That would make a nasty grinding noise. Could you describe what you hear a little more?

Likely a spun hub. Does it bite Ok at lower RPMS, like at hull speed?

If not then maybe it's a coupler? Most likely your hub on the prop though. Pull it and have a shop check it. If you see little beads of rubber near the shaft sleeve it's defintly spun. l;ack of beads doesn't mean it's OK though

Well AaronF., Assuming it's a spun hub, I'm with Gary H NC . . . I would do both. Buy a new prop AND get the one you've got repaired. Then you have a spare, which could've solved your issue without having to leave the marina . . . A new Aluminum can be had for $150 and the rehub should be half of that.
