Default Evinrude cooling

I just purchased a boat with a 200hp Evinrude 2 stroke. I started it this evening using earmuffs on the intake. After I started it i noticed that no water was coming out the top. I immediatley turned it off, Does anyone have any idea as to why the engine was not taking water?

Lots of questions,but few answers.

It may take a minute or so to see the tell-tale on a V6.

Also what year is it ?

Did you take it for a test run? What did it do then?

2001 - The engine started right up. I let it run for about 10 seconds - I was afraid to leave it run

Just dealt with this with my old motor. Haven't been out for a bit as it's been too hot to fish the big lakes and the smaller, higher lakes don't take kindly to 115hp.

Nothing from the tell-tale. Pulled the hose off (breaking the connector in the process, $2.05 to fix) and the hose was plugged solid. Looked like the start of a wasps nest or something. Anyway, replaced the fitting, ran some wire through the hose and it's working fine now.

Check the simple stuff first.
