Evinrude 18304 (18HP 1973 Model)

New Member, I just acquired a complete set-up boat (MFG runabout) motor and trailer (free) with 18 HP 1973 Evinrude. Checking the motor it does not have a spark and will not start. The rig has been setting for 3 years. I know I will have to do the usual and clean carb and fuel tank. Boat is in exceptional shape all has been taken care of. Any suggestions on what process to take. I am pretty good at working on thing always check with others ideas before I start tearing apart.

Pertaining to no spark, first thing to do is to remove the flywheel in order to visually inspect the coils, etc. And you are correct that the carburetor will require cleaning and rebuilding.

Do the spakr test with the spark plugs removed in order to obtain the highest rpm when cranking. The spark should jump a 1/4" gap on that engine with a strong blue lightning like flame.... a real SNAP!
