I have a 1985 omc 4.3L with a stringer outdrive. It is overheating when I go over 2000 rpms. At idol, it runs fine and stays at 160, but it heats up very fast at speed. I just replaced the impeller and the old one was perfect, so I know it is not pieces of the impeller that got stuck. I also replaced the termostat after it did this, it did not help. There is plenty of water comming out the hose that goes to the thermostat. What could cause this? Could the water pump in the engine just stop working without making noises first, it is spinning and no water is leaking.
The manifolds do not seem like they are getting too hot.
