Will my 1969 85hp bolts line up with my 1990 120hp?

Thinking of swapping motors so I can actually boat this season.

They should be the same.

Thanks Dhadley (again). I may just put that old evinrude on and get some boating in. At least that old electric shift dinosaur runs....

What will I have to do to hook up the steering? I had cable steering with the 85hp.

Oops! Well, are we looking at push-pull type cable or hydraulic?

Is that what you want to stick with?

No, I would like to hook up the existing steering from the 1990 POS 120 to the 85.

You're going to have to find some hardware to secure the streering cable to the boat. OMC didn't have provision to use the tilt tube for the cable mount until 1973

I'm a little confused. We're putting an older 85 where the V4 looper was, correct?

What kind of steering is in the boat now?

The boat has the 1990 steering. 1 cable moves the engine back and forth.

Wow. I'm lost! So the steering you have now went through the tilt tube on the 120??

Re: Bolt holes 85 hp-120hp

Ok let's back up.

I have a 1990 120 johnson on a 1990 Sunbird.

That 120 has made me a lieutenant here at iboats and still falls apart.

I was thinking about taking the crap 120 off, and installing a 1969 evinrude 85hp in it's place. The 85 runs and I'm sick of beaching my boat and tearing it apart.

I just wanted to know if it would work.

Thanks,
Alden

There are some aftermarket companies that make an adaptor so your push / pull cable will work on the 85 that doesn't have the tilt tube (it has a tilt pin). T&R Marine used to make some. Or Teleflex makes a standoff adaptor to allow you to use that cable.
