I just got a 93' Excel with a 4cyl - volvo penta 23l.. The prop is stock and the edges are beat up a little. The boat was running fine - hitting about 3538- mph. SUDDENLY - tonight we took it out and it just couldn't' get moving. It would rev up nicely in neutral, but in drive, it just couldnt' hit higher RMPs. We couldnt' get it to plane out. Tach wasn't' working when I bought it, but I'd guess we were only hitting the low 2000s' when in drive. I watched the throttle linkage on the carb while my wife slowly increased the throttle. The engine continued to climb in RPMs until it was about half way down. Then, no matter how much more you trottled it, the engine wouldnt' rev any higher.
I keep trying to think what could have happened between this boating outing and the last (which was 3 weeks ago). Everything looks the same with the prop and lower unit.
Is there some sort of RPM drive that limiter (when in drive)that my be failing? Could the damaged edges of the prop be causing the issue?
