I recently changed out the shaft bearing on my 85' bayliner, ( AQ125A, 270outdrive ), when I got everything apart my bellhousing was pretty chewed up so I replaced the bellhousing with a used one, after getting everything put back together and completely installed I realized that the bellhousing I put in didn't have the rubber o-ring (big rubber seal on the outside of the bellhousing )on it, can I run the boat this way or do I need to pull it all back out and put the o-ring in ?

Re: Shaft bearing replacement

There are 2 of those rings, one on the inside and one on the outside. Both are needed to keep the water on the outside of the boat. If you don't put it in, better get a big bilge pump. You will have at least 3, 3/8" diameter holes letting water in. It will not be a minor leak.
