Mooring boat

Just curious what is involved with mooring a boat for weeks at a time or for the whole season rather than trailer it around. Reason I ask is my next boat will probably be 17 to 19' cabin cruiser and it will be more convenient to have it at the ready.

I'll probably get a mooring ball setup off the beach in my parents neighborhood. There are a couple there already and I'll have to talk to the harbor master about that. But besides getting permission and the cost of installing a mooring ball, I'm wondering about these issues:

- Battery life for bilge pumps. How do you charge?

- Enclose with cover or leave open.

- Storm "readyness". Don't want to find it resting on the bottom!

- Barnicals and other stuff that grows on it. Do I have to pull it out every few weeks to clean or just at the end of the season?

- Do you fuel at the marina or ferry gas to the boat?

- More insurance?

- Is it better to just trailer it around?

- Is it better to trailer it and only moore it for the week or weeks that I am there?

- Anything else important I forgot?

Thanks!

Re: Mooring boat

inho, trailer and moor when you are there. if this is going to be the main place for use, and it is a good distance from home, you may find on shore storage, near by. here in Fla, some of the mini warehouse's have oversized storage units just for this. it's lock up inside, just like the garage.
