Hello all,

I have a buddy with a volvo 290 DP lower unit and it appears to me that his prop shaft if bent, not sure if it just the back prop or both but something is off, not by alot but you can see it when in gear on the muffs at idle. What kind of damage can this do over what kind of time period?

Unless you actually measure the shafts themselves, don't think that the shafts are bent because of how things look.
I've seen props that wobble and look way off, but the shafts are fine.
Especially on that inner prop. (One closest to drive housing) that shaft is about an inch and a half in diameter and has a counter rotating shaft inside it For it to be bent is almost impossible.
Besides that, that shaft is also part of the gear set, and the lower gear set is $1300 alone.
Get a dial indicator, remove the props and actually check the shafts.

That is good news Don, I told the guy if they are bent it would cost at least a grand to replace the shaft.

Not sure by what you mean a dial indicator?

Dial Indicator

You also need a base to hold it.
Just take it to a dealer with the props off and they can check it within a few minutes.
