Default Removing Merc Tracker 60 from Pontoon...advice

Just bought a good running Merc Tracker 60 from a friend, but he lives 5 hours away, so I've not seen the set up. It is currently mounted on a Sun Tracker Pontoon, 1996. I've only been familiar with 80's Merc outboards, so how's about a tad of advice? I would like to ask what I can expect to have to go through to remove it from this pontoon so I'm not clueless when I get there. Of course, the 4 thru bolts will be removed once everything else is free, I know how to disconnect the controls, steering cable/arm, power wires to battery - I'm good there. I'm really asking about all the little extra wiring. My guess is that there must be wires which go to temp, low oil, tach, and maybe even mph gauges? Do these wires typically pull off from the gauges and stay connected to the control box...or what is typical? Will I need to clip them? You see, I have a simple set up right now on my old 1960's runabout...an old Merc 60 hooked to my steering and QuickSilver controls...that's it. So give me just the quick lowdown on what to expect with this dismount. Of course, I'll mark the wires so that I can re-hook them to new gauges in my boat. Thanks in advance for the advice, mates.

Usually there is an internal and external wiring harness. Probably would be best to just get another external harness unless you want to take the time to dismantle everything.

The weight of that engine is 207 lbs...........HTH

Hi Mark, thanks for the reply. It seems hard to locate Tracker info online. Do you know of a site or resource I can go to, to learn more about this motor I'll be getting? You knew the weight, so I figure you must! Thanks again.

Merc builds a lot of Tracker stuff. Bet Merc parts are completely interchangeable.

I'm glad to hear that. One last thing, can you tell me if the old standard controller cables from my '87 will fit onto the '96, and if the round plug for the wiring remained the same as well?

Thanks!!

No Idea man. Got my answers from experience, common sense, and sales brochures. Wish I could do more for you.

Bump it up on the site and maybe someone will see it that can do a better job of helping you.

:'(
