I havn't seen a 25hp with points. marine motorcycle and small engine power product havn't used points for close on 20 years in most cases. Far more advanced than car product. On the port side your engine there should be a black box with aprox 5-6 wires out of it. On top of the engine there are two coils just back from the starter. This engine is electronic igniton. Why do you ask ?

My Dad has a 25 Mariner and had been running good but a few days ago it started cranking and running bad. Just searching for answers for him. He put new plugs in it and is running some seafoam through it..Hope it is just some bad gas which is not unusual these days............legalized theft but poor quality.

'97 sales brochure says CD ignition. Only use those with electronic switches.....no points.
