My 1989 mercury 9.9 conked out while in reverse, and when I attempted to shift back into neutral I found it was stuck and would not shift so I twisted a little to hard and broke the plastic thing that the shifter and throttle cables wrap around. Has anyone ever replaced one of these? Also is there anyway to shift it back into neutral without using the tiller?

I haven't had to replace that part but it will show you the assembly and how it fits together

I just ordered the part but I still have the problem of shifting out of reverse to free the cables.
