Welcome to iboats lostdaughter8)

The first thing you need to do determine the age and hp of the motor is get us a model number. Usually there is a small rectangular stamp on the transom clasp (where it attaches to a boat) that will have a model number and serial number on it. If that is missing there should be a round metal plug somewhere on the motor block that will have a model number on it.

When you find the model number, post it back here in this thread, and someone will be able to tell you exactly what you have.

Start by looking here:

Email me at dsinger@claremorecity.com and I will help you and selling this motor.. d:)

All I need is the number of cylinders, color of heads, power pack placement, and if the motor turns the flywheel while in gear.

Re: assistance please

Sounds like you found the year and HP rating. Anything else you would like to know about it? You could always put it on Ebay...

Re: assistance please

Its really difficult to determine motor value. Nada guides is a sort of motor blue book, but they tend to have prices that are on the low side of the spectrum. Example I have a 1988 Johnson that is worth a few hundred according to NADA. I have seen it go for $1,700+ on ebay for the EXACT same motor. Its all about condition and age. Usually (though not in the case I just mentioned) ebay is a decent way to figure something's worth. Check ebay for motors of that vintage/hp and see what they are going for. If yours has good compression and is cosmeticaly in good shape you can fetch $ towards the upper end of the spectrum.

I personally think that $200-300 is pretty reasonable.......in great shape maybe slightly more.

Have any pictures??

The little tyke (a GREAT motor!) will get at LEAST get $250, $300 on Ebay. Local, ask $399, take $250 if ya get someone in the driveway. I own 2...It were me, I would keep it. SIMPLE to fix if its needs something.

I'd sure keep it , and pass on to grandchildren , etc.

They'd allways have something to remember their grandad by.
