When I first ran the engine on the hose, the piss stream was a little weak. Figuring it'll get better once in the water, I tried it but not really any better. So I did the WP and tested it again. The stream is better but not great (at least as compared to my Yamaha). Its not overheating but it just seems odd. Also, if I shut the engine to drift fish, I notice at restart it takes a bit to get the piss stream going and I also hear a brief pressure relief at the port before it begins pissing, is this normal? I assume the engine has huge water jackets because after I disconnect it from the hose, it drains for quite a while thereafter. BTW, is there anything I should be looking for specifically.

Change your water pump. Also the thermostat some times only lets it piss water if the water is a ceritan temp. my merc did that, but im not sure about 'Rude
So you think it may be bypassing some of the water because it is not needing it all, hence weak stream? I did the pump, and noticed a slight difference but nothing groundbreaking
No not quite.. Does it pee more water when ur driving it faster? because my Gt150 doesnt pump much water at an idle but when im driving like fast it pumps pretty good
Also if you can put ur boat on a trailer with Muffs on it and see if water pours out of the whole above the prop... Cause that little pee hole dosnt always mean its not pumping water. My 65 Johnson never pumps water our of the whole or it just dribbles but it comes out of the hole above the prop
What you're seeing is quite normal for a looper V8. What's the water pressure at idle and at WOT?
Thats what I still have to determine. I have gauges on their way. I have been just putzing around listening for the idiot alarm. I got an intermitent beeping on my first outing after running almost WOT for a minute or so. After, I did the WP and have not had it. I am anxious to get a WP gauge because that will tell me what going on. My guess is that shes pumping pretty good. There is a tee from the previous owners pressure guage already inside that is capped off. I was running her a bit harder and noticed water dripping from the cowling. I slowed to a stop and pulled the cover and water was gushing from the hose. So, I suspect its pumping quite well.
Its right in, guessing a 1/8" line thats running between the piss stream port and and lower portion of the block (I think). I am going from memory here.

Water pressure on a looper is read at the adaptor plate. There are a couple of allen head screws in the adaptor plate on the starboard side. That's where you hook up the line to the gauge. If it's T'd into the overboard indicator line you'll get a very, very low reading. Probably 0 at idle and maybe 8-10 at wot.

Ok, this may be dumb, but what is the adpater plate you are referring to? On the starboard, lower/rearmost portion of the motor just above the cowling, there is a plastic fitting screwed into there. Thats the line the WP gauge was teed into. The line will just go directly to the gauge without any sort of bypass? On my Yamaha it is like that but it picks up on the top of the head behind the thermo housing. What should I be seeing for idle and WOT in terms of water pressure?

The adaptor plate is what the powerhead sits on. sounds like you've got it located. Depending on what pump you have in the motor you should see about 4-5 at idle and over 20 at WOT.
