That's the first thing to check is the connections. Loose connections can cause weird things to happen. You might have gotton some corrosion in the female end over the winter. Try getting some electrical contact cleaner at radio shack or even Walmart and spray it into the connector. Also, make sure the pins on the male end are clean and shiny....
