Happy 4th of July all...
First post in a year since changing upper gears 800 stringer..I seem to have forgotten what gear ratio i replaced the original ones with.. it was an 800 stringer without the true course steering so i used the origanal casing..been over a year now and just got her in the water the other day for the first time...1981 caravelle 185hp 305 gm with a 14 1/2 X 19 prop..first boat and first time i've turned a wrench on one...all went well...a little shaky start with the old gas, but once the black smoke and coughing cleared after 5 minutes..runs like a CHAMP..6 hours total now..fingers crossed...anyhow...this is the orginal prop with new upper gears and now WOT is a screaming 5600...son likes the hole shot for wakeboarding..comes up on plane in a few secounds and thottle back to 21 mph at what i think is high at 4000 rpm..op maual says WOT 42-4600...question is...guess i'm under propped now..any suggestions on what size would do for all around best performance..?? Top speed is around 40 mph on guage.. Not 100% sure on my prop size as the bottom fraction number on the prop is unreadable.....thanks for your time..!!!
