I have a 3 cyl 50 hp mercury outboard with powertrim. I dont no the year, but serial num is 9530059.
Past saterday i went out with my boat. engine running fine for abou 1.5 hours. suddenly the engine started losing power as if it was out of fuel. As soon as i put the engine in neutral it kept idling very nice. I then tried to get on my way again and the engine ran fine for about 10 to 15 minutes and then the problem returnd. I have checked my fuel lines and the bulb remains firm. the strange thing is that the engine idles fine and throatels fine..as anyone got any suggestoins for me

were you trimmed to high and not getting enough cooling water until you slowed down?

I'd check that fuel line again. I've had similar problems with my 100 hp merc. I checked the fuel line more than 3 times, and I swore it looked fine. Yet when I brought it into the mechanic, sure enough there was a small split where the line ran up against the hull. Ran fine after a new line was installed.

No. the engine was trimmed down and cooling fine.
I have recently put a new fuel/water filter/seperator and new fuel lines.
I think i will just have to strip the carbs and try cleaning them. If anyone els has any suggestions i would love to here it.

But thanks to teh rest of you for your answers and sugestions
