1988 225 Johnson looper will not run over about 4100 rpm in water under load and only about 3800 when going against current. Primer bulb also gets soft when underway.
After anchoring for awile it is hard to start and stalls/smokes alot initially when trying to throttle up.
VRO has been bypassed; has fresh 89 octane @ 50:1
Compression is even in all cylinders at 85# and have replaced stator, timer base and powerpack; has good spark at all wires.
Also replaced cannister filter/separator and primer bulb w/new 3/8" line from built in tank all the way to engine. Pulled pick up from tank & it and valve are o.k. (still need to check vent line)
Boat is 23' wellcraft coastal with 15 x 17 prop.
I have carb kits on order, does this sound like it could be the fuel pump?
