Some tachs have a switch on the back, to set it for a 4/6/8 cylinder engine. But that's probably about all you can do to calibrate it.

Any shop tach used for auto repair can be used on your engine. Your tach may have a calibration control but most of the less expensive tachs do not. The best you can do is to determine just how far off it is by comparing the two readings.
